The return of tradition

Set within the natural landscape of the Maresme, near Barcelona, this century-old masia has undergone a comprehensive renovation that preserves its historical value while reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens.

The intervention followed a respectful and measured approach, aimed at maintaining the original volume and preserving as many existing elements as possible. The spaces were redesigned while retaining a strong connection to the original structure: the former production area has been transformed into a double-height living space, while the stables now accommodate the guest rooms, in keeping with their historical proportions. At the heart of the project, a covered patio with a mechanical opening acts as a bioclimatic element, enhancing ventilation and natural light while improving indoor comfort.

The use of natural materials and textured finishes supports the design, strengthening the dialogue between architecture and landscape. Within this context, the exposed Genuit system integrates seamlessly into the architectural language. The copper finish was selected to harmonize with the warm tones of the existing materials, contributing to the overall atmosphere while also providing flexible technical solutions suited to the needs of a hospitality setting.

Today, the masia hosts a small rural hotel, where the balance between preservation and contemporaneity results in an authentic experience defined by natural light, spatial continuity, and a direct relationship with the surrounding landscape.

At the outset of the project, the building was in a near-ruinous state: only the perimeter walls and part of the roof remained. Despite this, the complex retained a strong identity, deeply rooted in the region’s rural and winemaking traditions.
